A few simple tips on how to read effectively in a short time.

When we are learning a new language and we don't have enough time...

Start by setting your goals. If you don't have enough time to spend on studying or doing exercises at home you have to realise that you will of course have results, but they will come in a longer time. Follow the tips below to achieve faster results.

If you don't have time to study at home, don't feel frustrated. We will definitely do the exercises together and make you feel comfortable again. In between the lessons, though, you can do the following...

Read 5-10 words on your way to work.

You don't need to work hard, but smart! Make sure you read between five and ten words each day during your daily commute. That way you will learn at least 40 words a week without getting tired and without trying hard.

Passive learning.

Make sure that once or twice a week you listen to greek radio, read the news in Greek, or just listen to some greek music when in the shower, for example. You can also listen to greek audio files (a greek podcast). Even if you are a beginner and you don't understand all the words, by hearing new words and the sounds of the language you become familiar with the Greek language. After a few weeks you will definitely be able to distinguish a few words and understand the meaning.

Exchange small texts in Greek.

Exchange a few simple texts with a friend or your teacher in Greek. If you don't know many words, try to write some simple things like τι κάνεις; or πώς είσαι; Little by little, you will be able to write even more words. We all exchange e-mails or texts every day, so we can also learn while doing that. You can even use the new words that you have learned during your daily commute. If you need to find a person that is also interested in exchanging texts, or Skype conversations. try also our Forum community (https://www.mygreekteacher.org/forum-1/find-a-speaking-buddy).

Talk to yourself - think out loud.

I know it sounds bizarre... But! Let's say you started Greek couple of months ago and you don't have enough time to study. While cooking, pouring coffee, or just brushing your teeth try to think of the greek words for what you are using or touching. Try to do that even for 5 to 10' per day. If you don't know these words add them on your vocabulary list for the next day. That way you will start building your vocabulary, and the words you'll be initially learning will be useful.

Before you go to bed watch a Greek movie.

Have you ever watched a Greek movie? Do you know Aliki Vougiouklaki, Tzeni Karezi, or Labros Konstadaras? No? Then don't hesitate, now is the right time to learn about them! Instead of watching ''Orange is the new black'' or something else, try to watch an old Greek movie. Some of them are black and white, but the actors use daily and simple phrases. Sometimes they are even referring to the geography of Greece, e.g. islands or places around Athens.

There are also modern movies, but i wouldn't recommend them since the theme might be more complicated or the actors might use slang.

You can find movies in the links below.
